Explaining The Rule of Thirds by Brian Peterson

We wouldn’t normally post something like this when linked to such a commercial site; however, this article came to me via email on The Rule of Thirds through Adorama and I feel it is really worth sharing.

Since I have had the privilege of mentoring a few students who had no previous experience in creating a composition using The Rule of Thirds, I hope this article will serve as a useful tool to others as well.

At some point I do hope we can partner with a few of the online photo and imaging educators to bring their work into schools as an ArtGives.Org Community Partner.

Wow! Over thirteen hundred hours, 30 people and 288,000 Jelly Belly jelly beans were used to create this amazing animation. Very creative work. Be sure to watch both the actual final product and the Making Of “In Your Arms” by Kina Grannis. This creation was truly a work of art and a labor of love!

Nano Arts!

Great artistic effort to help the general public grasp the idea of nano-technology! Ryan Miyakawa, an engineering graduate student at the University of California Berkeley, created a video on nanotechnology that turned into a runaway hit online, with almost 400,000 views on YouTube alone.

His video was created in response to a video contest sponsored by the American Chemical Society (ACS) to summarize “What is Nano?” Thirty videos were submitted and were judged in two categories, with winners announced at the end of March. Berkeley’s “The Nano Song” won for both Critic’s Choice and People’s Choice.

NEA Study Shows Value of The Arts!

WASHINGTON, DC – “The price of anything is the amount of life you exchange for it,” said American author Henry David Thoreau more than 150 years ago. Time and Money: Using Federal Data to Measure the Value of Performing Arts Activities is a new research note from the National Endowment for the Arts that looks at the value of the arts in three ways: time spent on arts activities; organizational revenue and expenses; and direct consumer spending. A particular focus on performing arts data provides consistency across these three measurements.

I’m still in shock that such a proposal could even be in the back of one’s mind… where are we going with all this?

How can such an advanced society have so little respect for such a fundamental piece of humanity? Ouch! Following is a brief excerpt from the Texans for the Arts website. Please join their efforts to keep the arts strong and well-funded in Texas.

“Not even a week after more than 85 stalwart arts advocates representing over 300 TFA member arts organizations and individual artists from all parts of Texas gathered in Austin in below freezing temperatures to call on 76 members of the State Senate and House, Governor Perry sent an even more chilling message to the arts community by proposing to “suspend” the Texas Commission on the Arts.” Texans for The Arts

Michelle Obama on Arts Education – !!!!

After the State of the Union address a few nights ago, I was curious and did a search for “arts education” regarding the President and found this post. Albeit older (2009), I think it is truly awesome! Hopefully her opinion still stands and is contagious!

Following is an excerpt from the “Text Of Michelle Obama’s Speech To Pittsburgh CAPA Students” Published Sept, 25th 2009 by WTAE.Com

“We’re here because I wanted to introduce them to some of America’s finest, most creative, most accomplished young people. I wanted to come here because I wanted to showcase the value of arts education — and you put that on display. That fact that it gives the chance to our young people to discover their voices and to develop their talents, this should be an opportunity that is available for every single child in this nation and quite frankly around the world.”
